Chorale! – a new play with songs
Written by Dan Evans with Park Younghee
Story by Dan Evans, Park Younghee, Jeremy Neideck and Bridget Boyle
It’s 1988. Queensland. Hot. A small community choir in a small(ish) regional town is preparing for its big break – a performance on the Riverstage at the biggest thing ever to happen to Queensland – World Expo 88. Robin has returned to his home town from studying music in the big smoke to direct the choir that he sang with as a child, but his homecoming is derailed both by political forces within the choir, and a chance encounter with a Korean boy in an orchard.
This is a coming of age story – of both a boy and a state. Chorale! is about finding your voice and having it amplified in all its shaky awkward truth, in all its golden cringe-worthy glory.
